The Society of Certified Senior Advisors is a professional organization for senior advisors that was founded in 1997.
The national organization offers education programs and a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) credential for people who work with seniors. The curriculum was developed with input from gerontologists, doctors, attorneys, accountants, and financial planners. Different components of the CSA program involve: serving clients 55 and older, creating marketing materials for seniors, making businesses more senior friendly, and more.
To attain and maintain the CSA certification, advisors need to “demonstrate a commitment to high standards, continuing education, professional ethics, and trust.”
To pass the CSA exam requires an average of 50-60 hours of classroom time and study. Once the senior advisor certification has been earned, advisors must complete a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education requirements every three years to maintain the certification, as well as pass a background check.
It’s important to note, however, that the CSA certificate isn’t designed specifically for senior living advisors or senior care advisors.
A wide range of professionals, businesses, and organizations that serve seniors are certified senior advisors, including: attorneys, financial planners, general contractors, aging in place specialists, reverse mortgage brokers, and more.
Also, there are many experienced, knowledgeable, and resourceful senior advisors working in the Denver metro area who don’t have the CSA certification, but are nonetheless extraordinary advisors.
