Faith and fellowship are at the heart of life at The Gardens at St. Elizabeth, which offers independent living and assisted living in northwest Denver. A chapel that was built in 1897 is the centerpiece of this senior living community, Catholic mass is held daily and scripture classes and other religious activities are offered regularly.
Owned by Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), The Gardens community includes 132 apartments in independent living (1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units), and 56 apartments in assisted living (studio, efficiency, and 1-bedroom units).
Assisted Living and Independent Living were opened in 1974 and 1987 respectively, and in 2019, The Gardens underwent a $10 remodel and renovation. There are now four dining areas at The Gardens, including a 14th floor restaurant and pub, with spectacular views mountain and city views. There’s also a coffee bar and bistro that offers “to go” options. As part of the remodel, The Gardens also added a clinic, which offers foot care, blood pressure screenings, and hearing aid services.
Other amenities at The Gardens at St. Elizabeth include a fitness studio, movie theater, salon and spa, game room, two libraries, sun porch, walking paths, and a community garden and English garden. Located in the middle of the popular Highlands neighborhood, The Gardens has restaurants and shops within walking distance.
There’s a full slate of events each month at The Gardens, including shopping, scenic drives, outings, walks, health talks, fitness classes, and special entertainment events each Friday afternoon.
In addition to Independent Living and Assisted Living, The Gardens also offers respite care and memory care support (for residents who don’t have wandering issues).

The high-rise building is located in the heart of the Highlands neighborhood, with restaurants and shops nearby. There are amazing views from the 14th floor restaurant and pub (which also has a patio). The fitness studio, game room, and multi-purpose rooms also have incredible views. At The Gardens, there are two libraries, a movie theater, a salon and spa, walking paths, a sun porch, and a community garden and English garden.
Regularly Scheduled Activities: At The Gardens at St. Elizabeth, Friday afternoons are the time for special entertainment events, including steel drum band performances, Irish step dancers, Cinco de Mayo dancers, and a comedian/magician who sings opera. Throughout the month, there are outings and activities including an aromatherapy class, health talks and a walking club that circles Sloan’s Lake.
Individual Transportation: Individual car transportation can be scheduled daily during open drive time.
Group Transportation: There’s scheduled group transportation daily for trips to the bank, shopping, scenic drives, and outings.
On-Site Services: At The Garden at St. Elizabeth, doctors make house calls as needed. There’s also a foot clinic run by a nurse, a blood pressure clinic, and a hearing aid clinic. On-site, there’s a hair salon and spa, and a dentist and dental hygienist also come in on a regular basis.
Pet Policies: Yes, dogs, cats, and birds are allowed in Independent Living and Assisted Living at The Gardens at St. Elizabeth. Dogs must be leash-trained and weigh less than 40 pounds. All pets are allowed only based on management approval. There’s a one-time non-refundable $500 pet fee, but no additional monthly charge for pets.

Wound Care: Simple, short-term wounds can be taken care of by the staff. For complicated, long-term wounds that need attention more than once a week or wound vacs, residents must bring in their own home health agencies.
Diabetic Care: Residents with diabetes must be able to administer their own insulin injections (set dosage, no sliding scale). If residents can’t draw-up insulin, their families must pre-load syringes or get an order for an insulin pen. If residents have an insulin pen, staff at The Gardens can dial-up the dosage and put the needle in the pin. But residents must administer their own insulin injections. If residents can’t do this, then they must bring in their own home health agencies.
Therapy Services: Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy can be brought in.
