Multi-level care communities for seniors offer a range of living options, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing care – all in the same building or complex.
Sometimes, to obtain these different levels of care, you need to move within the complex; other times, you can stay put and the services will be provided for you, where you are.
In general, here’s what may be included in multi-level care communities in the Denver area:
Independent Living At Multi-Care Communities
In independent living, you usually have your choice of apartments and floor plans, ranging from studio apartments to 3-bedroom apartments. Even though kitchens or kitchenettes are in the apartments, most independent living settings also include meal plans, with meals served in a community dining room (often restaurant-style). Amenities and activities vary wildly from one community to another, but are typically included in the monthly cost or for a nominal additional fee.
Assisted Living At Multi-Care Communities
In assisted living, you also generally have a choice of apartments and floor plans. Meals are included (typically 3 meals per day, plus snacks), as well as on-site activities. In assisted living, you’ll also typically get assistance with dressing, grooming, bathing, medications, and incontinence (although there might be an additional fee for this). Housekeeping and laundry are also often included at no extra charge.
Memory Care At Multi-Care Communities
Memory care in multi-care communities is usually located in a separate wing, floor, or building. Some memory care units offer apartments, but, more commonly, memory care is comprised of shared rooms, private rooms, and/or suites. The environments in memory care are usually locked and secured. In addition to assistance with all aspects of daily living, all meals are provided, and cognitive therapy may be integrated into the daily activities that are offered in memory care.
Skilled Nursing Facility At Multi-Care Communities
It’s not often that you find a skilled nursing facility as part of a multi-care community, but when it’s available, you usually have your choice of a semi-private or private room. Similar to what you’d receive in a standalone nursing home, everything is included in a skilled nursing facilities, including 24/7 medical care.
