What is the best senior living community or facility in the Denver metro area? There isn’t one.

Not because Denver doesn’t have some of the best senior communities and facilities in the country, with literally hundreds to choose from, because we do. But because “best” is different for every senior. The key is to figure out what “best” means for you.

What’s important for you to have in your new home? Below are some criteria you might want to consider when weighing your different senior living options:

_____  Cost

_____  Location

_____  Levels of care offered (e.g. independent living, assisted living, memory care)

_____  Services provided (e.g. assistance with dressing, bathing, medications, incontinence)

_____  Types of units (e.g. private rooms, shared rooms, studios, 1-bedrooms, 2-bedrooms)

_____  Size of facility or community (how many residents live there)

_____  Meal plans and dining options

_____  Amenities

_____  Activities

_____  Transportation (individual transportation and group transportation)

_____  Pet policies

_____  Smoking policies

_____  Religious affiliation

_____  Secured environment

_____  Lease terms

_____  Accepts Medicaid

_____  Structure of the community (how many units are independent living, how many are assisted living, how many are memory care, and where the units are located within the facility or complex)

As a recommendation: Identify your top criteria that are “must haves,” and maybe even throw in some “it sure would be nice to haves,” too. Then do research on senior communities and facilities in the Denver metro area (this website is a great place to start) and make a short list of 3-5 places you’d like to visit.

Once you have visited a few communities or facilities throughout Denver, you might find that your priorities have shifted. Something you didn’t initially feel was important has suddenly become very important. Or something you thought you couldn’t live without might seem less crucial. If need be, make another short list of places to visit, based on your new criteria.
